Beauty Regimen

My friend Charleen has written an entry titled Winter Skincare Routine that I thought was interesting, it wasn’t life changing or anything (soz Char) but I too want to look after my skin more than usual and hey why not make a blog entry for my followers (those that are out there) who might be interested to know of my skincare and my beauty regimen.

I’ve gotta be honest, my skincare routine was absolute shit, I mean it still is because I don’t do things every day, though I guess if you do it every day it’ll end up bad. I’m that asshole that has been blessed with great skin, I mean I guess that DNA/God/whoever went:

“They’ll have great skin, hardly any pimples on their face, it’ll be perfect!”
“But Greg, we’ve got to have something to fuck with them!”
“You’re right, I know, we’ll give them PCOS! That way they’ll spend $30 on waxing just for it to grow back in two weeks!”
“You’re an absolute madman Greg!”

That’s probably what happened, I don’t know, but that’s what I like to imagine. So yes, my skin is good, the only thing that sucks is that during the winter, the corners of my nose likes to dry up, so I’ve got to moisturise there more often than not. I use some Lush products here and there (which will be in this entry) but most often then not I don’t do anything, it wasn’t until a video titled How to stay focused + motivated on bad days by Cheyenne Barton who replied to a comment of mine that her skin was clear too and all she did was (and suggested to me) to have a good skincare routine helps keep my skin healthy and good-looking for longer, and suggested getting micellar water and a moisturiser with SPF in it are good items to have, so I did it and got some products (and I’ll have products I’ve used before and swear by in this too).

SIMPLE Micellar Cleansing Water 200 mL: I really like Simple’s products, like they’re so nice, so choosing their Micellar water was a no brainer. I do find that it’s a bit of a mess trying to get the water out of the product but that’s alright, and I use a cotton pad and slop it all over my face, I do like that you don’t need to dry it off with a towel or something so that’s nice.

NIVEA Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream SPF 30+ 50 mL: Moisturising Cream was a bit difficult for me to be honest, but I chose this one because like Simple, I too love Nivea products as well, I love this moisturiser but I do feel like the one thing I don’t like about it, is the feel of it afterwards, and I sweat quite a lot so you have to put it on every 2 hours and to put it on straight after you’ve been sweating so it’s been a hit or miss for me honestly, and I might look at other companies for moisturisers unless they always have that feel.

BEAUTY ESSENTIALS Micellar Cleansing Wipes 25 wipes: When I wear makeup and I need to take mine off, I’ve been using this Beauty Essentials, and I know these use micellar water, but I don’t see the point in using one for both things (and I prefer wipes when taking off makeup compared to cotton pads, because honestly, it’s so satisfying to see all the foundation and lipstick and such come off). I have also used Simple’s wipes to remove makeup and they’ve worked wonders.

NIVEA Hydro Care SPF15 Lip Balm: Here’s another Nivea product I use, I’ve been using Nivea’s chapsticks since I was a kid, and honestly I cannot say anything more or less about the product, I’ve always used their range of chapsticks, but the Hydro Care is the one I prefer over anything else.

NEUTROGENA T-Gel Anti-Dandruff 2 in 1 Shampoo: The next downside of having clear skin is having dandruff, and so it’s pretty bad. I used to use Head and Shoulders but a friend told me that it takes out the colour of your hair if you dye it (and I do) so she suggested this one and I love it, of course the one thing I’m not a fan of is if you break from using it for a week or a week and a half your head gets itchy, they do recommend to wash your hair with it every day or twice a week and I wash my hair around 3 to 4 times a week give or take, so I’m good. I also recommend using normal conditioner or your regular conditioner because 2 in 1 Shampoo doesn’t really mean 2 in 1.

LUSH 9 to 5 Cleansing Lotion: Before I used moisturiser I used this stuff, and I usually used it to wake me up before I was going out and I wasn’t using makeup or something (like before work where I know I’ll be sweating and running around), so I really like this product, I picked it up as a whim item while I was shopping at Lush for the first time and wanted to try things out so I really like this and recommend it.

LUSH Don’t Look At Me Fresh Face Mask: I love Lush’s face mask, and at the moment I’m using this one, though I have used products before where it’s been flaky almost and this product isn’t flaky until you wash it off or something, but it’s good, it smells interesting so yeah. My face feels hella smooth afterwards which is cool, previous lush face masks I’ve used are the Love Lettuce which I didn’t mind, but it sure was flaky while drying and the lavender was way too overpowering for me personally and the other one I’ve used is the Catastrophe Cosmetic and I liked it, the smell was much nicer then Love Lettuce, but that too was flaky as well.

LUSH Maypole Soap: Lastly, for soaps I’m using Maypole, it smells like a candy cane mixed with mayple syrup like it honestly smells so freaking good (and maybe that was the only reason I got it haha), though soaps always feel like they haven’t been on my body for a while compared to gels or jelly’s so I’m not too sure. Other soap like products I’ve used from Lush before are Respect Your Elders which was the first soap I picked up and really enjoyed it, the smell was so nice, and Woosh one of their shower jelly, the woman working at Lush when I picked this up said it’s better to cut it up before you use it, that way you save more of it and I did that, I did find that it was difficult to use it while the water was running so I turn it off (and now I do that when I use Maypole) and by the end of it the pieces would break down so I’d have to use two in one shower and they are like decent sized chunks so yeah. I also love that Woosh contributes to the ‘bring in 5 pots and get a free face mask’ at the moment I’m using the pot to hold my Maypole as I bought a huge chunk of it and cut it into triangles so now I’m 1 away from the 5 pots.

That is my whole beauty regimen, some things I do more often and some things I don’t. I hope you guys enjoyed it, and what I like is that everything here I only use so it’s a lot cheaper on my end and lasts longer (especially with my short hair for products like the anti-dandruff shampoo), the exception is the Lush face masks which usually last two weeks but you can go over the two-week period, it’s just that the ingredients aren’t as effective as they can be in that first two-week period. Go give Charleen a follow.

No worries, I didn’t have an idea for what to write and I saw your post and thought “hey beauty is slowly becoming something I’m into, let’s write about that” there’s a Lush near my uni so I’m not excited for that haha.
